Sam Rubin, the beloved entertainment reporter for KTLA since 1991, passed away on Friday at the age of 64.
Rubin tragically succumbed to a heart attack at his home. His final appearance on KTLA was on May 9, and his absence from the "Morning News" on Friday was notable. Colleagues noted that Rubin had displayed no signs of illness the day prior.
Throughout his illustrious career, Rubin became a Hollywood fixture, distinguished by his enduring tenure at a single station. Known for his affable demeanor, he frequently shared anecdotes about his personal life, including his experiences with his wife and four children. Live interviews with Rubin on KTLA were a cherished tradition, a must-stop for celebrities promoting their latest projects in movies, TV, music, and more."Sook expressed, 'Sam was an icon in Los Angeles and the entertainment industry, and he was a beloved member of our Nexstar Nation. My prayers are with his family and the KTLA family as we mourn his passing. He will be missed.'"
KTLA, a pioneering TV station that first aired on the West Coast in 1948, honored the memory of Rubin, who became synonymous with the station. KTLA news anchor Frank Buckley, visibly emotional, delivered the news of Rubin's passing on-air Friday afternoon.
"Sam was a giant in the local news industry and the entertainment world, and a fixture of Los Angeles morning television for decades," KTLA conveyed in a post. "His laughter, charm, and caring personality touched all who knew him. Sam was a devoted husband and father, roles he cherished the most. Our thoughts are with Sam’s family during this difficult time."Being stationed in the heart of Hollywood, Rubin, both as an anchor and reporter, delved into the intricacies of the entertainment industry, often providing a fan's viewpoint on the inner workings of studios, networks, and the opulence of celebrities. As his career progressed, he ventured into TV production and expanded his reach globally. Rubin served as an on-air entertainment reporter for ITV U.K. and gained popularity in Australia as a Hollywood correspondent for 9 Network's "Today" and "Today Extra" programs.
